Poodle & Doodle Grooming in Phoenix, AZ

Curly coats are our specialty — backed by the AKC Curly Coat Type Certification and proven on the competition floor.

Why Curly Coats Need a Certified Specialist

Poodle and doodle coats don’t behave like other fur. They grow continuously, mat from the skin outward, and turn into felt if they’re bathed without a proper blow-out. Plenty of Phoenix groomers will take a doodle appointment; far fewer have trained specifically on curly coat structure. Andrew holds the AKC Curly Coat Type Certification and grooms poodles and doodles at professional competitions — the same scissor discipline that wins ribbons shapes your dog’s teddy bear head.

From Show Trims to Practical Desert Cuts

Whatever look you’re after, the coat comes first:

  • Teddy bear & puppy clips — the classic doodle look, kept plush but manageable
  • Sporting & kennel clips — short, athletic, and perfect for hiking-season doodles
  • Breed-standard poodle trims — clean feet, precise topknots, correct pattern lines
  • Face options — clean poodle face or fuzzy doodle beard, your call
  • Creative touches — pom tails and pet-safe color for the bold

Every curly groom includes the full works: bath, structured blow-out (the step most shops skip), line brushing, cut, nails, and finishing. See what’s in a full-service groom.

Honest Coat Assessments — No Shave Surprises

Nobody books a doodle groom hoping for a shave-down. We check the coat with you at drop-off, tell you exactly what’s workable, and price dematting transparently at $1 per minute so you decide what makes sense. And if the kindest option is starting fresh, we’ll say so before the clippers come out — never after.

Between grooms, keep the coat going with a solid brushing routine. Our grooming frequency guide breaks down exactly how often curly coats need professional attention in Arizona’s climate.

“Andrew is amazing. My dogs love him which is saying a lot! Before going to Andrew, my St. Berdoodle in particular did not like going to be groomed but since going to Andrew, he looks forward to it and it's a happy reunion every time. He does an excellent job. It's clear that he loves what he does and loves all dogs.”

Poodle & Doodle Grooming FAQs

What is the AKC Curly Coat Type Certification?

It’s an American Kennel Club S.A.F.E. certification focused specifically on curly and wavy coat types — poodles, doodles, bichons, and Portuguese water dogs. It covers coat structure, correct drying and brushing technique, and breed-standard styling. Andrew holds this certification, which is rare among Phoenix pet groomers.

How often should a doodle be groomed?

Every 4–6 weeks for most goldendoodles and labradoodles, with brushing at home 3–4 times a week. Curly coats mat from the skin out, and Arizona’s dust and pool season speed that up. Waiting 8+ weeks usually means a shorter cut than you wanted.

My doodle is matted — can you save the coat?

Sometimes. We assess honestly: light matting can be worked out (dematting is $1/minute), but pelted coats are safer to clip short and regrow. We will never spend hours painfully ripping mats out of a dog for the sake of a fluffy photo.

Do you do show-style poodle trims?

Yes — continental, modern, and German trims are available alongside practical pet styles like the sporting clip and teddy bear. Competition experience means the lines and balance are done properly.
